I believe I must date it from my first seeing his beautiful grounds at Pemberley

My seniors continue to work their way through Pride and Prejudice, and today we got to watch tape 4 of the BBC series. I love this part, I used to watch from the part where Lizzie arrives at Pemberley till Lydia's letter arrived just when I needed a pick me up. Well to help them through it I have been buying candy or having food lessons that add a bit of spice to the story. The other day they had to compare the novel to a Tootsie Pop. The answers gave me a good chuckle and I now share some of the best with you:

Tootsie Pops are old candy, but still taste good; like how in Pn'P is an old book, but still contains a story (like sugar) that we can relate to enough in human nature that is enjoyable to read.

The Indian guy on the wrapper looks scary with his bow and arrow but he's actually way awesome cuz with him on the wrapper you win! Like Darcy...seems scary jerk, but actually he's a winner!

A tootsie pop is enjoyable, and gets even better the farther you get, where as pride and prejudice gets worse the deeper you get.

There is a wonderful facade that is the outside and the chocolate on the inside is the inner evil. There is a facade to every character and they have a core that is something different. The lies are masked their truths are masked or vise versa.

The tootsie pop is like the characters in the book. If you hold it right side up it is Wickham cause he is very big headed. If you turn it upside down it is Darcy because he has a firm stances and a strong base of what he knows.

The characters who are said to be hard-heartedness (Lizzie) because the outside represents the hard heart of her and the tootsie roll represents the soft heart she has underneath the hard part.

If it takes 1,000 licks to get to the center of a tootise pop, how many insults will it take to get through Mrs. Bennet's head?

If I have my lollipop and no one else does then they are going to have prejudice towards me. I myself will have pride for my tootsie pop!

The sucker is like Wickham it may be colorful and beautiful on the outside, but on the inside poop brown.

The whole book is sugary and bad for you. The cover wrapper is colorful. Seems like a good idea, but the text is hard and crunchy and the inner meaning is gross and ugly. All in all, a bad idea that gives you a stomach ache. When you're done, the stick is all gross and you feel dirty. You end up throwing it away when you're done.

I picked the violet colored toostie pop because it reminds me so much of Lizzy. I look for every reason not to like the violet colored tootsie pop, and try and cover it uglier so I can hold bigger grudges against it like Lizzy does to Darcy the first half or so of the book. But in the end we find out that everyone is the same.

This one was prefaced with: Think of this in a metaphorical sense. How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Mr. Darcy?!
